You Pronounce it "Car In"

My name is Karin (not Karen) Gillespie and it's pronounced "car in" as in "Is that your 'car in' the street with its bumper hanging off? My mother, who gave me this troublesome moniker, pronounces it "car rean" in a lovely lilting Austrian accent. My southern friends sometimes call me "corn" (as in Children of the...). My last name is pronounced the same as Dizzy's. (no relation)

Bet Your Bottom Dollar (2004)
A Dollar Short (2005)
Dollar Daze (2006)

Tiny Little Librarian said of Bet your Bottom Dollar, "It's another book full of quirky small-town folks and each chapter begins with a quote from a bumper sticker, sign in someone's shop, someone's favourite quote or a song from the jukebox in the Tuff Luck Tavern, such as selection F-7: "I Still Miss You, Baby, But My Aim Is Getting Better."

Lynne's Little Corner of the World said of Dollar Daze's main character, "Attalee reminds me of a Southern Grandma Mazur."

This is one of the funniest series I've read in a long time.

I received an e-mail yesterday from Karin (a reply to mine) stating:

Thanks so much for your kind words about Dollar Daze. I had so much fun writing that series but unfortunately I don't think there will be any more (these decisions are made by the publisher). Attalee is so fun to write about. She's my favorite as well.

Oh pooh!

Oh, I hate that! I got on her blog which is shared by a group of southern writers, and her post was about getting one starred reviews on Amazon for her first book. Check it out>>>

She just sounds like a fun person. :)

I laughed out loud while reading the first in the series. Love the chapter titles!

That's an endorsement, Mary! We need those kind of books and the titles are something. Lynne says they are the last of a series, but she still has some dollar sayings she could tap into such as "For a Few Dollars More," "Million Dollar Baby," and "Silver Dollar."

I wasn't aware of the pronunciation, but it makes sense. Thanks for the plug - I really did love the book. She also helped out with the fun Sweet Potato Queens' First Big-Ass Novel, so I'm definitely on my way to becoming a big-ass fan!
