First Review Linky

The critics have spoken!

Time to communicate with other Southern Readers!

Please leave your name only and a post specific URL address for the FIRST southern book read. This way people can read the review without searching the reviewer's blog.

If you are looking like I just spoke a foreign language, read on. To get the post specific address for your blog click the title or if no title click the time stamp at the bottom of the post. The internet screen will display the single post and in the address line will be the post specific URL. Timbo's your uncle!

Thanks so much for the instruction. I'm constantly amazed at what I can do with a little help. O.K. alot of help. Why didn't I take a good computer class. I'm rethinking one of my book-- is that O.K.
Have a great week.

Susie - This linky is for when you finish the book. I'll take you off and let you do it again when done reading. You are doing great and I think you have the Mister Linky licked! :D

No problem, Judy. I taught blogger class and the separate logroll of NWCC southern readers are all newbies. Not all of them know their stuff quite yet; thus, the little hints. I'm glad that I'm helping you, too.

Oh, and it is okay to stray from the original list of books.

Hmm, not sure how my full name ended up there. I only typed my first name. Any way to change that?

maggie moran said...

No problem Mary. I'll change it when I get to work. Running late...

Andi said...

Oh, right . . . I need to be reading. . . thanks for the reminder. . . I'm on it!

maggie moran said...

Oh, no pressure Andi! I was behind. I have some participants on their second book! :)

I do believe I am already behind in my reading and posting!

I plan to do lots of reading next week in Maui, and will have some reviews when I get back!

maggie moran said...

Get some sun for me Diane! :)

Maggie, I noticed that the link to my review doesn't go through. Can you put a .html at the end of the link? I think that may be the problem. :~)

Mary (Bookfan) said...

PS I wish I was going to be reading in Maui next week!

LOL - LOVE the picture!!

maggie moran said...

Mary - You are such trouble! :P
I must of entered you umpteen times last night b/c I had forgotten to place the book name in your title. I took the .html off on purpose and Mister Linky too it, FINALLY! Mister Linky needs an attitude adjustment. ;)

Thanks April. I found it kicking around in the web last night. I like his sharp tongue, or at least I think that's what that is, could be his mouth?!? :)

I inadvertently posted about my meeting before I had a chance to review it. It was late. I've almost finished it now, so in another hour I'll have the post back up. I think that's what you were referring to in your comment.

I spent this afternoon listening to Kevin Sessums read Mississippi Sissy. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it hit me like a body slam on so many levels that I've been an emotional wreck for the past hour chasing back some of the darker memories from my childhood.

When I requested it from the library, I didn't notice that I requested the audio version read by Kevin himself.

Listening to a book is tougher than reading it sometimes. I have to be in the mood, I have to be alone, I blah, blah, blah. I settled down real quick and the next thing you know, I'd been listening to it for three hours.

Tchuss.

maggie moran said...

Wow, Houston! I'm thrilled you are enjoying it. Kevin has his own blog, but woefully neglects it. Pop over and tell him how it is affecting you. http://mississippisissy.com/blog/

He is just the cutest little guy ever on the cover! ;D

Great idea, using the Mr. Linky! Mine is up!

Maggie - thanks for your comment and question on my blog about the Dairy Queen book. I am not surprised that one would want to read/discuss this book at a book club. It would be a good one for an all-women's book club - certainly enough fodder for some ladies' discussion!

I was intrigued (and somewhat surprised) by the preacher comment. There are a few passages that struck me as "quotable" (meaning, I would have underlined them if I was the type to underline in my books). But it didn't strike me as that type of book. But different strokes for different folks!

I would still characterize it as light reading. But an enjoyable book.

Clear as mud? LOL.

I'm afraid it will be fluff. I'm glad she is wanting to read it and that will keep us from having to decide. They turned down my suggestion of reading The Handmaid's Tale, but then again I make all kinds of suggestions and something needs to be turned down to keep me suggesting. Thanks for returning here to answer Jill! :D

The preacher's interest has surprised all of us. I'll be reading it eventually just so I can find inspiration.

So here's my posted comment related to the reading challenge: Thanks, Maggie, for giving us one more reason to read, read, read...

It's now 11:40 p.m. My husband's in bed. The kids are out for the night. I have to work tomorrow and should be in bed. But nooooo, I had to finish my review and post it and THEN I could think about going to bed. This is just way too much fun!! (I'm not a night person, so I must REALLY be having fun with this.)

maggie moran said...

I got the second review linky up just for you Gautami! ;)

Stella, such dedication and your review makes sense! ;) I'm glad you are having fun and doing some things out of your comfort zone.

I have tried Mr Linky 3 times and do not see my link so here it is: http://themysterybookshelf.blogspot.com/2008/06/sugar-queen.html. I am halfway through The River Wife by Jonis Agee which is advertised as being a southern book but it is not. It takes place in New Madrid, MO. Some websites say Agee is southern and others say otherwise. Guess I am reading another book for the challenge.
