LoL...ya know, that's an ongoing debate in our home; born-and-bred in Western Pa., I pronounce it pe-khan, whereas my upstate NY'er mate says pee-can.

We DO both agree that they're tasty, regardless of how you pronounce them! But...its pe-khan.
LoL.

Pee-can.

In Texas it's "pe-khan" and when I hear the other pronunciation I always look around to see who said it. :-)

Oh, it's definitely "pe-khan" where I'm from. My granny made me pick them up in her yard and then shell them when I was ornery. Those things sure do get under your fingernails! You can't get much more southern than south Georgia...so, when in Rome, do as y'all done did down yonder.

I'm curious now. How do you pronounce it in Mississippi? (Apologies for the above exaggeration--couldn't resist.)

Here's another pecan question: do you make your pecan pie with corn syrup or do you boil brown sugar and butter? Any favorite recipes?

Congratulations Ellamac!

I'm from Western PA, too, and I also say pe-khan.

I hear pe-khan here in the Northwest.

I grew up in Texas, so it's pe-khan :) In fact, in San Angelo we had two huge pecan trees in our front yard; every year we would gather up all the nuts and sell them!

I'm with the Texans on pronunciation. We had a pecan tree in our back yard in Oklahoma. My mother thinks they're messy, but she's never lived under a couple of hundred-foot oak trees that shed limbs every time the wind shrugs a little.

Pe-Khan here. And I use brown sugar and butter. I'm not a fan of corn syrup. :)

Congrats to Ellamac!

pe-khan here, too. And I do use corn syrup in my pie, but it has both brown sugar and butter in it too. It's my grandmother's recipe--she was from North Florida--and it's darn good.

Hello all! It's pe-khan where I'm from and my husband, fom New Jersey, used to say pee-can until he was converted into the house of southern. :)

Oh, and real pe-khan pie is made with Karo dark or light, Kelly. :)
