Nattie from Nattie Writes is no longer with us. Her fight with stomach cancer was rather sudden and short. I briefly met her, and enjoyed a joke, in April when she signed up for the Southern Reading Challenge. So I thought, in memory of her, I would read her picks.
1. Charms for the Easy Life by Kaye Gibbons
2. Boy's Life by Robert McCammon
3. Awakening by Kate Chopin
There is no shortage of good days. It is good lives that are hard to come by.

Your tribute to Nattie is very touching, Maggie.
What a wonderful idea, Maggie. I couldn't believe it when I went to her blog yesterday morning.
Nattie's blog was a recent -- and too late -- find. So sad...
That's a wonderful idea Maggie.
That's great way to remember a fellow reader.
I think reading Nattie's picks is a very personal and thoughtful way to commemorate her love of reading.
I agree with everyone else--a wonderful, touching idea.
Wow, what a great way to honor your friend.
In response to your post on my blog regarding the book I just finished...
I thought it was horrible (the self punishment...not the book....it was nettles in the bed, by the way! :) The main reason is the view of sin that Ninah had was so legalistic...and therefore, it seemed everything she did was a sin. The fear of God that was imparted to this community was not a healthy fear of God....the characters in this book certainly had a distorted view of God thanks to the messed up teaching of Grandpa Herman.
Happy Reading!
I agree that this is a beautiful tribute. I did not really know Nattie, but I was very shocked when I heard about her passing away. It was so sudden.
I didn't know Nattie and I'd never been to her blog but it's always sad when someone that young dies. It's very nice of you to read her books.
Shit! Pardon my French. I'm just so very tired of the heartbreak that Cancer seems to inflict upon those I know and love and those I've never met. A very lovely tribute to your friend, Magge. And how odd that I just picked up Boy's Life today, telling a young customer how wonderful a book it is and how I enjoyed both it and Swan Song. Charms for the Easy Life and The Awakening are both among my favorites, as well.
Sigh.
Oh that was so sudden. Thank you for letting us know. And what a wonderful way to remember a fellow reader.
What a nice thing to do, Maggie.
Thanks for letting us know and what a touching thing to do, reading her picks.
May God bless her soul !
oh my --i didn't know these were her picks. I read a boys life last summer and urged her to read it knowing she would enjoy it. I hope you enjoy it too.
Sweet Nattie. It's just beyond sad.
I have The Awakening on my shelf, I think I'll add it as an alternate to my list.
