Hi Maggie! We're reading the same book for the Chunkster Challenge. :) I've decided to stretch it out over the six months (while reading other books of course), unless it's so gripping that I can't put it down. Being that it's your only one...what's your plan?

Hi Joy!
I'm going to attack it in June. I'm afraid it is that good of a book that I will want to walk around the house with it open in my hands! :D

Maggie how about "The Magic Mountain
" by Thomas Mann?

Well, Paul, I'll take that on as extra credit. I like the main characters name, Hans Castorp; it sounds like Hands Castoff.

I'm looking at the time I'll need to invest and from reading some of the reviews it sounds like a lot; although, this could be the year I go all Thomas Mann crazy. I have Death in Venice chosen for the classic read.

Thanks for the comment. Your suggestion is a book I'm not familiar with but should be! :-)

Those definitely qualify!

I think I'm going to participate in this challenge, although I haven't decided which book(s) to pick yet.

Good luck!

I choose " The Magic Mountain" (740 pages) and I am a slow reader ! LOL

Ew, Paul, my first search found a copy w/ 780 pages, when you noted 740, I found one that is 720! James E.Woods translation sounds "um" good.

Does less pages equal less words or smaller type? ;)

Happy New Year Maggie. I tried to read The Magic Mountain several years ago and wow, it was just such slow going. I sort of skimmed through the end. Terrible, I know. One of these days I'd like to try it again.

Lesley,
I hope you decide to join. You only have to read one and you have from now until the end of June to read your chosen colossal book.

Iliana,
Happy New Year to you, too! Its all in the mood, isn’t it? I’m kind of psyched. It deals with Europe politics, which means I might cliff note it. ;)

Dana,
Thanks for stopping by. It’s my husbands FAVORITE, too! This is high praise from a man who reads a book a week without a challenge. ;D

What an awesome challenge! Good luck; I'll look forward to hearing your experience. (I just finished Terri Jentz's "Strange Piece of Paradise," 500+ pages, so I'm off the big books for a while. They're tiring, even if they're good!)

Nonanon,
The weight alone is enough to cause a fat lip if you accidently doze off. :)
