Brief Encounter!

The Morans took me out passed Tunica to show me a duck hunting club. If you look passed my noggin you will see a dock unfurling into a swamp. This here is the Beaver Dam Club's dock and jonboat.

We weren't alone on our travels. Over my left shoulder, in the green muck, poises a rather subdued water moccasin. Reminds me of one of my favorite new funny authors, Mark Childress, and his One Mississippi cover art.

Isn't the water moccasin great, WW100!

I'm guessing that a subdued water moccasin is the best kind of water moccasin.

It is the only kind I wanna run across again!

Diane, I thought it was just a regular ole snake. I saw him as I was putting my right foot down in front of his face. This is what I saw, snake coming towards dock and about to rest his head on top of the wood. I stomped right in front of him real loud and he draws back. Then I tell my hubby Snake. And he goes, "That's a water moccasin!" Well, I on the end of the dock where water is and hubby is on the side with the land, and WM is in between!

*que the spaghetti western music*

The snake made the first move and turned towards me and began a slow slither as I backed up on the other edge of the walkway. We put Faulkner down, took a picture, took a picture of the snake, and got the heck out of Dodge! ew! :P

I thought that that was you I saw out past Tunica Maggie !!

Could that snake have popped its head up and bitten you? I read about them in southern books and I shudder. Glad the stomping helped. Oh yuck.

Nan, these are highly aggresive snakes and had I known it was a WM a would never have stomped. Actually, I would have stepped back six feet, taken the photo and ran. They are curious snakes and I just knew he was going to come up on the dock to look-see who or what made the quick noise/movement in front of his face. I thought when I stomped it would scare the snake and it would flee. He/She merely backed up. Hubby threw a little stick in front of him and he still didn't move, not even to blink!

We both sighed when he turned to snake along the side of the dock. Oh, the dock sits on the water, about 3/4 inches from the surface. As you can see in the photo. We decided we had enough swamp photos! :)
