Irish Movie Meme!

Number 9 is Far and Away! Thanks to everyone for playing! :D

Here's a fun meme I saw on Lynne's Little Corner of the World.

The Rules!

1. Pick 10 of your favorite movies. (I picked 10 of my favorite Irish movies.) 2. Go to IMDb (Internet Movie Database) and find a quote from each movie. 3. Post them here for everyone to guess (if you know them all, please don't guess every one). 4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie. 5. No Googling or IMDb-ing. (That would be cheating, and no fun!)

Here are my quotes and hints: All these movies are set in Ireland! Don't think Irish mobs in America, Think Dublin, Limerick, etc!

1.) Sir!... Sir!... Here's a good stick, to beat the lovely lady.
(The Quiet Man, one of my all time favorites! Miriam has written a lovely post about this, her favorite movie, too!)

2.) Is there a greater twist of fate Annie? To win half a million and the next minute die from the shock of it.
(Waking Ned Divine! Great job Mary!)

3.) How do you know he was Spanish? Or a sailor? He could've been a Pakistani postman if you were that drunk!
(The Snapper! Mary's gettin' giggie wid it!)

4.) Do heavy metalers eat chips?
(The Van and Mary Rocks!)

5.) Do you not get it, lads? The Irish are the blacks of Europe. And Dubliners are the blacks of Ireland. And the Northside Dubliners are the blacks of Dublin. So say it once, say it loud: I'm black and I'm proud.
(The Commitments! Way to go, Diane!)

6.) All is nothing, therefore nothing must end.
(My Left Foot! Give that Mary a shillelagh!)

7.) Have you ever seen the seagulls a-flyin' o'er the heather, or the crimson sails on Galway Bay the fishermen unfurl? Oh, the Earth is full of beauty, and it's gathered all together in the form and face and dainty grace of a pretty Irish girl. Oh, she is my dear, my darling one, her eyes so sparklin' full of fun, no other, no other can match the likes of her! She is my dear, my darling one, my smilin' and beguilin' one; I love the ground she walks upon, my darling Irish girl!
(Darby O'Gill and the Little People! W2G Tiffany!)

8.) Fairy land was never like this!
(Finian's Rainbow! Mary Donley got this jewel by contacting me through e-mail! You Go Gal!)

9.) I recognize these hedges by their dullness.

10.) Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. It's been a minute since my last confession.
(Angela's Ashes! Faith and Begorrah Deana!)

Those are tough! I like the last one. But I don't have a clue what movie these are from.

#2 - Waking Ned Devine?

#4 - The Commitments?

Ew, they are tough, Lynne. Two movies are based on books by Roddy Doyle I read in the early 90's. I guess I'll be leaving clues as the week goes on. :)

Yes, to number two, Mary! Good Job! Um, no to number four. Thanks for playing! ;D

Yes, Diane! Give that girl a shamrock! :D

#1 is from The Quiet Man, which I just posted about today here.

You are so right Miriam! It is my favorite John Wayne and my hubby is quite pleased with this line. He likes to recite it when I go running. Bah! :D

Oh, we also saw the little town in Ireland where they filmed the bar scenes.

Mary (Bookfan) said...

#4 Is this a Roddy Doyle book? Perhaps The Van? I'm not sure the film went by the same title...

maggie moran said...

Yes! It is The Van Mary! You Rock! ;D

Mary (Bookfan) said...

#10 Agnes Browne???

maggie moran said...

No, Mary it tis not. Wee little one you must try again. ;)

This IS tough! But it was fun, too! And I had to Google #10 because it was driving me nuts. I won't give it away, though! ;)

You like a lot of Irish movies!!

maggie moran said...

Hey, Tiffany! I may have to give a couple of hints...One is an ole fashion Disney. ;)

I went through a Roddy Doyle phase in the late 90s and one is still un-named on the list, Angela. I love me everything Irish; especially, my dark Irish hubby! :D

#3 The Snapper???

I'm a RD fan as well. Your recent comment made me take another stab at these. I've been checking back throughout the day because I really really want to know the answers LOL!

maggie moran said...

Yes, Mary! I'm doing an Irish gig! I always thought RD should have named The Van the "Chipper" instead. I'm a matcher. ;D

Mary (Bookfan) said...

Maggie, thank you for posting after me. NOW I can go to bed! I'm out of guesses for the rest of the lines. I'll keep checking back, though. I thought The Van should be titled The Chipper too! I really miss the Barrytown folks. I wish he'd continue that series.

Good Night... :)

Is #8 The Legend of Darby O'Toole? If so, your hint (and a good night's sleep) helped. I'm not even sure I'm remembering that title correctly--blast from the past!

maggie moran said...

Oh, no Tiffany! So close, but you have the number wrong and the title is way off, but the Darby part is right. Maybe you need another night to sleep on it. ;D

#7-Darby O'Gill and the Little People?? (That afternoon nap really paid off--just kidding.) :)

maggie moran said...

Yeah, Tiffany! May the luck of the Irish bless you and all your naps. ;D

#10 Agnes Browne?

Mary (Bookfan) said...

Never mind the recent guess. I see I already guessed that and was wrong : P Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most, LOL.

maggie moran said...

Too funny Mary! Tis a good guess, though. :)

Angela's Ashes is the one about the confession but I don't think I have seen any of these others at all.

maggie moran said...

YAY Deana! Yes, number 10 is Angela's Ashes! I hope you had a very green St. Patty's Day! :)

Thanks Joy! I'm looking forward to reading some nonfiction in the science and math department. Should be fun! :)

Number 9 is Far and Away the Kidman/Cruise fiasco, Mary! I believe you deserve to be crowned the Irish Queen for all the answers. Thanks for playing! :D

Thanks, Maggie. That was fun! I didn't have a clue of Far and Away. Saw that only once when it first came out.
