Cheers Y'all!

Don't bother just to be better
than your contemporaries or predecessors.
Try to be better than yourself
. ~ William Faulkner

Congratulations to all southern readers.
I raise my glass to y'all!

Love the quote, Maggie. Cheers to you! I'll definitely be back for 2009 Challenge. The UPS man brought me a tasty package for MS yesterday :~) Thank you so much! My husband and I broke into the chocolate covered pecans after dinner last night. Yum!

That's great Mary, and thanks for playing! :) Please stay in touch. I still have books to give away! :D

Thanks for hosting a fun challenge! Now that I've read ALL the Fannie Flagg books, I'll be ready to branch out a little more next summer! Have a great Fall!

U2 7VI! I'm so glad you decided to join in this year. You have added much to the discussion. :)

First, thank you so much for the pecans. I'm such a dork that I thought when you said I won pecans, it was going to be like a Planter's can of pecans, not what you sent. Wow!

Second, because I chose to wait to the last second, I failed at my first reading challenge of the year (and ever...it was the first one I was to complete). I'll put up a post later today about this; however, I'm glad I participated, if, for nothing else, the pecans! :)

I am glad you are pleasantly surprised, Just A Reading Fool. I had a feeling, from your e-mails, but I is my southern nature not to correct you. :D

Which book did you reach for Black Boy or Their Eyes Were Watching God? I still haven't picked up Black Boy. I'm so lazy! :)

Even though you warned me, I reached for Their Eyes Were Watching God. Then by the time I thought I could switch to Black Boy, I just ran out of time and felt like I didn't want to try to just cram a book in for the challenge. I mean, it's not like it's a homework assignment. It was something I was doing for fun. Unfortunately, I kept thinking the challenge was over at the end of the month, not Aug. 15. Oh, well, que sera sera.

Cheers to you Maggie and all your hard work on this challenge. You made it a lot of fun! I'll join in 2009 for sure.

I'm sorry JaRF. I wanted to start and stop a little sooner than last year. Of course, you may still keep going, but please, only if you are enjoying yourself. ;)

Thank you, Sharon, and thanks for giving the extra contests a try. Good luck with the book drawings to come. :)

Thank you for hosting such a fun challenge! The contests were great, and I'll definitely be participating again next year--if you are hosting again!

Ah, thanks Laura! I definatly want to do this ever year! I learn so much and fill the gaps of my mis-education. I actually read a classic to go with this challenge tobe able to talk with a little confidence. :D Have a happy rest of the year and visit often. :)

I totally bailed, but I totally bailed on all the challenges I signed up for!!
But thank you for the pecans _ sweet, nutty goodness _ and the box itself was a real hit with my son. :)

There is always next year to actually read, Maree! I was wondering if they sent the chocolate covered pecans all the way to New Zealand. I imagine not, and I'm sorry. I would say the company was a little stingy with the chocolate ones. :)

Thanks for hosting this awesome challenge! I look forward to joining in again next year!

I'll raise MINE when my black current brandy is ready (it's steeping in a jug in the pantry as I write) in September! Thanks, Maggie, for all the hard work and energy you put into the Southern Reading Challenge.

Thanks, April! I put Finn in the mail today, so be on the lookout. Next year - I still have books to give away this year. ;D

Oh, it sounds warm and delicious, Stella. Almost like a brandy one would enjoy in the crisp of fall.

Stella and April - The Southern Reading Challenge is a labor of love now. I feel awful that I went on vacation and basically let the challenge sit still. Hillary Jordan promised an interview and I have more books to give away instead of being done. Next year I plan to take advantage of bloggers new time release of posts. Ah, next year...

I'm sure that no one will mind more book giveaways, Maggie, lol!
Next year will be here before we know it! This year has flown by, it is just crazy!!!
I will let you know when Finn arrives! I can't wait!

April, I was looking through one giveaway and it isn't signed! What happen with that? The author must have been so excited they forgot to sign it before posting! :) This is what happened to Susan Gregg Gilmore, but she realized it and sent me another. :)

No, no chocolate pecans. Although, now, I want chocolate pecans .... mmmm .....

maggie moran said...

I was afraid of the Maree. I'm afraid they would have melted, but I wasn't sure. Thanksfor the reply.

Mr. Faulkner would've raised his glass to you too wouldn't he??? I think it is great so many people did the challenge. Next year I'm coming back. Any upcoming challenges...you know small ones for wimpies like me?

maggie moran said...

Missed you, Deana! You can find a list of current challenges at Wendy's A Novel Challenge blog.
